2005 Jun 15 - Marray defeated in Nottingham
Jonathan Marray put up a brave fight against the talented Frenchman Richard Gasquet before crashing 6-4 6-1
in the second round of the Nottingham Open.
In the opening set the British No.9 snatched an immediate break of serve but Richard gradually asserted
his authority and snatched two breaks of server. Jonny struggled with his serve in the second set and was
masterfully exploited by the Frenchman who booked his place in the quarter-finals.
After the match Jonny said:
"I didn't serve well against Gasquet and I have got to serve better than that if I am going to stand a chance
"I've had a dodgy six months and another dodgy day here. But I am hoping to get a decent draw at Wimbledon and
then hopefully at least one win."
He was also quick to compliment his opponent:
"Richard is one of the top players in the world at the moment.
"His game may not be ideally suited to grass, but I think he could do well at Wimbledon if he keeps playing like
Jonny defeated compatriot Alan Mackin 6-2 6-3 in the first round.
Mark Hilton crashed in the first round to Paradorn Srichaphan 6-3 6-2.
