2005 May 24 - R.Garros: Rusedski crashes out
Greg Rusedski suffered a disappointing 6-2 7-6(7) 6-3 straight sets defeat to Brazilian Flavio Saretta
in first round of Roland Garros.
Greg would have expected to overcome a player ranked 132 in the world but was unable to cope with a spirited
performance from the 24-year-old.
The British No.2 was broken early in the first set and despite breaking back the Brazilian pressed on to clinch
In a closer second set a tie-breaker was required. Greg earned two set points but he failed to convert either
of them, which proved costly as Flavio went on to take the set.
At this point there appeared no way back for Greg, and this proved to be the case as the Brazilian wrapped
up the third set.
After the match Greg said:
"I must give credit to Saretta, he played really well.
"I am disappointed because I was training well and my serve also was good during training.
"But I guess I could have got into the match better with a more efficient serve.
"This is a question of confidence, the more matches you play the better your confidence gets."
