2005 May 20 - R.Garros: Henman v Starace
Tim Henman has been drawn against the 24-year-old Italian Potito Starace in the first round of Roland Garros.
Potito may have turned pro in 2001 but this will be his first meeting with the British No.1. The young Italian
has been making good progress though, he broke into the world top 100 for the first time in 2004 and recently
defeated 1998 Roland Garros champion Carlos Moya in the first round of the Telecom Italia Masters in Rome.
If Tim can negotiate the Italian he would face either Luis Horna or Jerome Haehnel in the second round. Should
he progress to the semi-finals he could meet world No.1 Roger Federer.
Greg Rusedski will be pleased to know he will face a qualifier in the opening round. His clay court
preparations for Roland Garros have been hampered by opening round exits to Andy Roddick and Roger Federer.
But should Greg reach the third round he is likely to meet American ace Andy Roddick once more.
Meanwhile... Roger Federer will also face a qualifier in his first round match. The Swiss master has
already clinched Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon, the US Open and Australian Open so he will look
to improve on his first and third round Roland Garros exits over recent years.
Speaking of his chances this year Roger said:
"I have a good feeling, but feelings don't matter much once it starts.
"It's the real deal over five sets for two weeks.
"I cannot think about aiming for the title. The last few years have been too disappointing for me, and I
really have to focus on the early rounds."
