2005 May 05 - Henman defeated in Rome
Tim Henman crashed 3-6 6-3 3-6 to Slovakian Dominic Hrbaty in the third round of the
Telecom Italia Masters in Rome, Italy.
Unlike his sublime performances in the opening two rounds against Gustavo Kuerten and Nicolas Massu,
Tim struggled to maintain his form.
He dropped his opening service game and two more breaks followed as cracks started to appear in the usually
solid Henman service game.
The real Tim Henman finally showed up for the second set and broke twice without reply to level the match.
But momentum swung again in the third set as Dominic pounced on errors and snatched two breaks to claim his
first victory over the British No.1.
After the match Tim said:
"I played some of my best tennis this year in that second set.
"I thought I would carry the momentum through to the final set, but I couldn't pull it off.
"My frustration comes from the fact that having turned it around in the second set the match should turn on a
couple of points.
"But that's how it is on clay. You get some momentum and you have to do everything you can to keep it going.
Every point is a battle."
