2005 Mar 14 - Henman defeats Melzer

Tim Henman eased past Austrian Jurgen Melzer 7-5 6-4 to book his place in the forth round of the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells, USA.

Windy conditions hampered the British No.1 who dropped his serve three times but he still came through in straight sets.

After the match, Tim said:

"It was about who could stay positive and not get frustrated and I felt I did that well.

"It was really difficult conditions out there, which is not what you expect at Indian Wells.

"There's usually no wind and today it was really blowy, which made it hard.

"With these conditions you have to accept you're going to mess a few shots up. But to finish it off as well as I did bodes well for the next round."

In the next round Tim will be up against the Spaniard Tommy Robredo, a man he has defeated in all three of their previous meetings.
