2005 Mar 13 - Rusedski out at Indian Wells

Greg Rusedski crashed to the Chilean Fernando Gonzalez 7-6(4) 7-6(5) in the first round of the Pacific Life Open at Indian Wells, USA.

Fresh from leading Great Britain to victory against Israel in the Davis Cup, the British No.2 was in confident mood before the start of the match but he was unable to get to grips with the Gonzalez serve. Likewise, the Chilean found very few cheap points on offer when Greg was in the driving seat.

Both sets inevitably went to a tie-breaker and in both cases it was Fernando who shaded them with the odd mini-break.

After the match Greg said:

"It came down to a point here or there and that's what it's been like for me against the top players this year.

"Now I just need to start winning those one or two points and I feel like I'm getting closer to doing that."
