2005 Feb 24 - Henman defeats Andreev

Tim Henman cruised to a 7-6(5) 6-1 straight sets victory over Russian Igor Andreev to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Men's Open.

In a highly competitive first set neither player was able to make sufficient headway on the others serve. A tie-breaker followed which Tim comfortably secured 7-5. In the second set the Russian's game fell apart and the British No.1 took full advantage to closed out the match.

After the match Tim said:

"Winning the tie-break was crucial and I am pleased to get through.

"The level of tennis was very high in the first set. He is a great athlete with a great physique and he can hit the ball hard."

In the next round Tim will face the useful Croatian Ivan Ljubicic. The players have met on four previous occasions and although Tim won their first match back in 2002 he has lost all three matches since.
