2005 Jan 16 - Greg to quit Davis Cup?
Greg Rusedski is considering following Tim Henman out of the Great Britain Davis Cup team following the shock
retirement of the British No.1.
Speaking to Radio 5 Live, Greg said:
"With Tim out of the team it makes it a lot more difficult for us to do well at Davis Cup.
"I haven't made a decision. I'll sit down and think more after the Australian Open."
Although the two players have never been the best of friends they have always performed admirably for
Great Britain and have a underlying mutual respect. So it was no surprise that Tim made his plans aware
to Greg before the public announcement.
"It came as a little bit of a surprise to me. It's an interesting time for him to be making
"I'd heard chat about him putting his rackets away from Davis Cup. That's his decision and his choice."
The forthcoming match against Israel in Tel Aviv is of key importance if Great Britain are to earn another
chance of reaching the elite 16 World Group.
"I have to think about what I'm going to do. If Tim had been playing, I would be playing, now this puts a whole
new slant on the Davis Cup for me.
"I can't make a decision at the moment. I want to focus on the Australian Open and then sit
down. It's unfair for me to think about this right now."
