2004 Sep 02 - US Open: Henman topples Golmard
Tim Henman cruised into the US Open third round with a convincing 6-2 6-4 4-6 7-6(1) win over
Frenchman Jerome Golmard.
Despite going up two sets the British No.1 still had work to do as the Frenchman came back to win the third
set and then went 3-0 up in the forth before breaking back and sealing the win with a 7-1 tie-break.
After the match Tim said:
"I'm pleased to get through. I feel physically I was a lot better than I was in my first
match and that's a good sign.
"It's still not quite right, it's still a little stiff and mentally I lost a bit of confidence in it.
"But I'm getting that back and hopefully there'll be a chance to improve again in my next match."
In the third round Tim will face the Czech qualifier Michal Tabara. Tim has never lost a set - let alone
a match - against the 24-year-old in their two previous meetings.
