2004 Jul 04 - Rusedski falls to Robredo
Greg Rusedski pulled off a glorious 4-6 7-6(3) 6-4 win against 2004 Roland Garros champion Gaston Gaudio
in the second round of the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati, USA.
Greg was unable to make the most of his chances in the first set by failing to convert break
points and then being broken for 3-4 and Gaston holding his serve to take the set.
The second set was very tight and so at 6-6 has to be decided with a tie-breaker. Greg took calculated
risks and won the breaker convincingly 7-3.
Unlike the first set, Greg took advantage of the break points he had earned and one was all he required
as he broke to lead 3-2 and then held serve to see out the set 6-4.
After the match Greg said:
"I was a little bit flat out there but once I got that break in the third set I felt comfortable.
"He had the advantage for a set and a half but I got my serve going and that was the key to it I think.
"I am a little bit tired but I am in the third round now and I am looking forward to it."
In the third round Greg is set to face the Spaniard Tommy Robredo. The two players have met only once
before - Cincinnati 2002 - and Tommy won in three sets.
