2004 Jul 02 - Rusedski topples Enqvist in Cincy
Greg Rusedski may have dropped the first set but he came through 3-6 6-3 6-2 against the Swede Thomas Enqvist
in the first round of the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincinnati, USA.
In the first set Greg dropped his second service game and this was all the Swede needed to take
the set 3-6. The second set was a complete reversal with Greg taking a break point opportunity which
was enough to level the match 6-3. Greg was now in full flow and proceeded to break Thomas twice more
to take the final set 6-3.
After the match Greg said:
"I am just really pleased with the way I played.
"Thomas played a good first set but I got the better of the second and played a really solid third set.
"I have won 11 out of 13 matches now and am starting to come back and play the sort of tennis
I used to be able to play.
"Some people said I would be on the Challenger circuit every week or even playing Futures tournaments.
"Every time I have had a problem in my career I have come back."
In the second round Greg will face 2004 Roland Garros champion Gaston Gaudio of Argentina. The two
players have met only once before (Cincinnati 2001) and Greg won in straight set tie-breakers 6-7 6-7.
