Top Celebrities support The Tennis Show
Comedians Alistair McGowan and Tony Hawks together with former British No.1
Sam Smith will be playing in a fun celebrity tennis match at The Tennis Show
on Saturday 15th May from 2.00pm at Earls Court in London. The 2002 winner
of the National Road To Wimbledon Title and top Kent junior player Laura
Saunders will join them. Tony Hawks is promoting his charity: 'Tennis For
Free' and is working in partnership with councils and other public bodies
nationally to open up the opportunities of tennis including giving free
access to public park courts, free coaching and free equipment. It should
prove to be great on court fun and entertainment for all.
Kieron Vorster, Director of Physical Training at the LTA and former Fitness
Trainer to British No.1 Tim Henman, will be putting members of the general
public through their paces with a special designed fitness session from
1.00-2.00pm on the Friday and Saturday at The Tennis Show.
Kieron says, "there will be a thorough warm up with tennis specific drills.
We will then go into a tennis circuit and depending on numbers will be up to
14 stations. These types of exercises reflex the movements that the body is
put through during a game of tennis and aims to work on all the different
muscle groups. You spend 30 seconds on each with 5 seconds to change station
and you go through the whole circuit 3 times" The session will last about 45
minutes to 1 hour.
Brad Langevad, former coach to Wimbledon Champion Pat Cash and British No.2
Greg Rusedski will be on court giving free video analysis sessions over the
three days. Brad has helped thousands of tennis players of all standards and
holds workshops throughout the UK. "Genius, brilliant, the best in the world
at his job", comments Pat Cash.
Brad, an Australian scientist and former world-ranked ATP Tour player, is
determined to transform the modern game with his groundbreaking Biometrics
programme. "Conventional coaching is un-researched and totally wrong", says
Brad. "Britain's been indoctrinated with these tired old methods. If we ever
want to produce another Wimbledon champion, we'll need to scrap everything
and start from scratch."
Ten years ago, this is exactly what Brad did. Working as biochemist during
the week while coaching tennis at the weekends, he began to wonder whether
there was such a thing as the perfect tennis shot. Taking a video camera
round the international tennis circuit, he filmed the game's top
professionals and began to unravel their idiosyncrasies on computer.
Photo and filming opportunities on the tennis courts will be available
during the show:
