2003 Sep 30 - Roger Taylor still Davis Cup captain
LTA Performance Director David Felgate is backing Roger Taylor to continue as British Davis Cup captain, despite
Great Britain's relagation from the elite 16 World Group following the defeat by Morocco.
Taylor's contract expired after the Morocco defeat, but Felgate insists a new contract will be in place before
April 2004 when Great Britain are due to face Finland or Luxembourg in the Euro/Africa Zone.
"I've no doubts that he will be. He's Davis Cup captain and he's still got a role to play.
We have got all the staff in place that we need and want."
The World Group will not be within the grasp of Great Britain until 2005 at the very earliest, but
consistency seems to be the key as far as Felgate is concerned.
Roger Taylor stated:
"I am fully committed to Davis Cup, but my contract has not been agreed and that is to be discussed.
"I think there will be a decision by the end of October.
"With the second-round draw we have been given, we have a very good chance of getting to the World Group
play-offs in September and I want to be there."
