2003 Sep 19 - Davis Cup: Henman & Rusedski beaten
Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski both suffered defeats on day one of the Davis Cup play-off
against Morocco. Hichim Arazi won in straight sets against Tim 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), while
Younes El Aynaoui took the full 5 sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 to get the better of Greg. So going into
tomorrow Morocco are leading Great Britain 2-0.
Tim required treatment during the match due to a neck injury which was probably a factor in
his straight sets defeat. Tim commented:
"It wasn't much fun out there and I'm pretty disappointed.
"I didn't feel as if I played that well while he was pretty solid and didn't hit too many unforced errors.
"He hit some good shots and he's always capable of passing shots. But I made too many unforced
errors in the first set.
"That gave him a lot of confidence and he played better.
"There was some pain between the neck and the shoulder and my movement was restricted. It's not
ideal but I hope it will still improve overnight so that I will be ready for the doubles."
After the match, Greg said:
"I tried my best but came up just short."
"At the start of that final set, he needed some air and he took five minutes. But that's experience.
In Davis Cup, you have to know how to make it work."
